The Umbra

A World of Darkness
Also known as The Abyss, The Void, and variations thereof, this is the homeland of not only the Lupus Umbra but all manner of shadow-critters. It is a vast, primordial wilderness of dense forests, towering mountain ranges, and broad plains bathed in eternal moonlight. The blanket of year-round darkness is occasionally broken by a volcanic pits filled with aquamarine magma flows bubbling up from deep beneath the surface, primarily found in the more rugged, mountainous regions of the Umbra.
Streams and rivers flow readily across the landscape, originating in the purest springs and terminating in fathomless oceans teeming with all manner of bioluminescent jellyfish, crustaceans, and sponges, fed upon by various large marine predators. In many ways, the Abyss is a mirror image of the mortal realm, filled with shadowy or luminescent equivalents of known flora and fauna ranging from large deer to small mushrooms and almost everything in between.
There are are a number of differences in each that separate them from the familiar inhabitants of the mortal realm - including carnivorous reptiles resembling ancient Terran raptors and plantlife capable of devouring small animals.
The climate is generally a stable temperate zone, though snow is not uncommon across the spinal columns of massive mountains, and the forests are populated with trees vaguely resembling the tall pines or redwoods of the mortal realm, albeit with much darker trunks and leaves. Some regions of forest are so dense that the light of the blue dual-moons above cannot penetrate their canopies, lit only by occasional clusters of fungi growing at the roots or along the sides of these large trees, large fireflies, or wandering schools of colorful, bioluminescent sky-jellies. While the weather is generally calm, violent storms casting huge bolts of amber or silver lightning are not unheard of in the realm; wildfires caused by lightning strikes are, however, fortunately rare.
As far as artificial structures are concerned, they are exceedingly rare; one might find an occasional temple or circle of standing stones made from the hard, black, ebony-like rock native to the realm, but they are all disused and weathered down with the passage of time, remnants of a culture that predates the creation of the Lupus Umbra by the god Vrkan millennia ago. Some packs of Lupus Umbra have been known to move into these abandoned temples and use them as their dens.
